The ballpoint pen is part of the 2014 Writers Edition, dedicated to Daniel Defoe, a well-known English novelist, journalist and pamphleteer, best known as the author of "Robinson Crusoe". Defoe is recognized as one of the pioneers of the English novel, and "Robinson Crusoe" marked the advent of the realistic literary genre.
The overall structure of the Writers Edition represents the oar with which Crusoe tries to escape from his desert island.
